Tshwane Mayor, Solly Msimanga Embarrassed for Jumping The Gun of Zuma
The newly appointed DA mayor of Tshwane has embarrassed himself while delivering his inaugural address. Solly Msimanga committed himself to making sure that President Zuma’s blue light are banned in Tshwane streets.
“Even when Zuma comes in believe me there will no longer be blue lights. We will ensure that this city has a new feel and new look. All those who used to think they are VIP in this city … no more. The VIPS are residents of this city,” Msimanga said.
Msimanga allegedly learnt just after his address that he does not have power to make that decision. Only provincial government can ban blue light and not municipalities. It will take ANC’s buy-in in order to clear Tshwane of VIP protection blue light.
Cape Town succeeded in doing away with blue lights because the ban decision was done at provincial level, also led by the DA.
Many have described Msimanga’s lack of understanding as hunger for power that does not he does not have access to.
“I think Msimanga is too ambitious and thinks that he has tapped into a stream of power.” wrote Bheki Mngadi on Facebook.
