Hlaudi Chances To Return As SABC’s Acting Chief Operating Officer Increase
The SABC is reportedly considering re-appointing Hlaudi Motsoeneng as its acting chief operations officer, a move that might lead to more legal challenges against the corporation.
On Monday, the Supreme Court of Appeal refused to entertain Hlaudi’s application for leave to appeal a ruling that was handed down by the Cape Town High Court that his appointment was not valid.
SABC’s memorandum of incorporation gives power to the corporation’s board to appoint any senior staff member to act as chief operations officer. It is believed that the board will rely on this provision in its proposal.
A draft resolution was reportedly sent to all corporation’s board members on Monday for approval. It recommends that Communications Minister Faith Muthambi reappoints Hlaudi.
The board is requested to recommend that Minister Muthambi approves the appointment of Mr Motsoeneng as the Acting COO for the period 19 September 2016 to 18 December 2016 on a Round Robin basis.
It is understood that majority of board members voted in favour of the adoption of the resolution which works in Hlaudi’s favour.
